DC Pedestrian Master Plan
Not as sinister as it sounds. Check out the website of Toole Design - it seems they are a consulting firm working with the DC gov't to improve "sidewalks, roadway crossings and the quality of the pedestrian environment." Make it so, Master.
Also, have your say in "the Plan" by taking the short survey on the Toole website.

Do people walking on the wrong side of the sidewalk raise you dander? Does their insistence for going against the flow disturb your sense of fair play?
Try this. Bump into them and ask if you can have this dance. Say you have noticed that they have a unique way of meeting people. If they don't ask, don't tell.
Are you puzzled about which pedestrian has the right of way? The one who looks away first is dominant. Let them have their way or be prepared for the wrath of Anne. Don't attempt a second eye contact.
Do you ask permission to join a line or to enter an elevator? If there are people from New York in the line ahead or you or on the elevator, they may leave to avoid having to talk to a stranger. However, be prepared for the risk of hearing how the crops are doing this year in Georgia.
Have you ever negotiated with the people already in line as to what a fair price would be for having a more responsive line?
